About the Au Sable Graduate Fellows

Fellows Jumping for Joy at the Annual Retreat 2010
Overview
The Au Sable Graduate Fellows Program is part of the Au Sable Institute of Environmental Studies, a Christian institute that promotes a Christian environmental stewardship vision among undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty, and is intended to create a graduate-level forum for discussion and exploration of a Christian worldview that takes seriously God’s creation of the natural world and humanity’s place and responsibilities in it.
The Program
Au Sable Graduate fellows meet regularly at their university location for “Integrative Sessions”, modeled after the Integrative Sessions of the Institute’s academic sessions, at which they and supportive university faculty discussion current topics in Christian environmental stewardship, present seminars to each other on Christian environmental stewardship themes, or take field trips based on group interests. These meetings explore particular Christian environmental stewardship topics in depth and emphasize the integration of the graduate fields of study represented with Christian environmental stewardship. Annually, the Au Sable Graduate Fellows from all the universities meet for a retreat at the Au Sable Great Lakes campus to interact through seminars and discussion groups, recreation, and worship. Currently groups have formed at the University of Michigan, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Michigan State University, and Cornell University. Through the initiative of graduate students and faculty, this number is being increased.
Au Sable Graduate Fellows program also supports the long-term commitment of students' to Christian environmental stewardship. Fellows receive a fellowship stipend of US$100 per semester explicitly for the purchase of books and reference materials on Christian environmental stewardship. These publications are to enable them to maintain their education and research in Christian environmental stewardship at a level comparable to that of their graduate study and research in the university.
